The unexpected rain moistens every tree and grass in Anqing City.
On the morning of November 5th, Anqing Foreign Language School’s Junior High Department of the east campus carried out the demonstration activity of teaching (Chinese) for graduate students of the Humanities College of Anqing Normal University in the joint classroom. The lesson was taught by Li Ping, external tutor of Master of Humanities of Anqing Normal University. Professor Chen of School of Humanities led all the graduate students of School of Humanities in teaching (Chinese) to participate in the activity.
In the teaching process, Director Li Ping introduced examples from life to create a relaxed and happy classroom atmosphere. As is known to us all, Su Shi expressed his open-minded attitude towards life by writing in his book ‘Calming the Waves’, ‘Neither rain nor shine’. However, this class is featured in ‘wind, rain and sunshine’. Specifically, ‘Sunshine’ lies in the good classroom atmosphere, the teacher's cooperation and student's input. On the other hand, ‘Wind’ lies in bold reform, returning the class to the students, thus capturing the beauty of prose: scenery, beauty of words and beauty of people. Additionally, the method of annotation allows students to imagine the scenes, objects and people in the text, which puts students in the main position everywhere in class, pays attention to method guidance and arouses students’ enthusiasm as well. Last but not the least, ‘Rain’ and the subject ‘Rain in Kunming’ happen to coincide. Moreover, all the teaching links embodied the thoughts on the integration of teaching material units compiled by Middle School Chinese Department and expanded students’ reading horizon. More remarkably, the students’ sense of satisfaction and joy after learning was not only obvious to all the teachers present, but also let everyone feel the impact of the new teaching concept.
Later on, in the evaluation session, Yang Sheng, the teaching and research group leader, summed up the teaching concept shown by this vivid Chinese demonstration lesson: the classroom teaching should be combined with the Senior High School Entrance Examination and the pursuit of effectiveness. In other words, the classroom teaching should fully embody the teaching concept of turning teaching into learning and promoting learning with guidance. In the meantime, it is particularly important to lay emphasis on knowledge transfer and expand students' knowledge. After all, Chinese class should not only play its instrumental role, but more importantly, it is humanistic. Life is full of Chinese, and we should make Chinese class more ‘Chinese flavor’.
In the end, Professor Chen gave the graduate students guidance on the transformation of teaching concept and emphasized the necessity of cultivating students' independent practical ability in combination with Director Li Ping’s demonstration lesson.
In summary, ‘Go fast if you want, and go far if you want.’ As the saying goes, we have all the way to explore and all the way to grow! Every teaching and research is a poetic practice. Looking back at the mountain path we had taken, we saw a vast expanse of green mountains. We accompany each other in teaching and research and come back with fruitful results.
